to Franklin Bruno... "i bought franklin bruno suggestion box back in high school and would love to get a digital copy for my computer. i have not perfected the cassette to computer transfer. is this possibly? suggestion box has remained one of my favorites and would love to hear the lunch i never had on my ipod itunes should really expand to all music. allutep5000"-- allutep5000 (on 08/15/10 23:40:49) to Joseph Benzola... "Hey there Joe, not sure about you, but I started off as a "home-taper, cassette underground" guy way back in the early 80's, so it's kind of appropriately odd to wind up somehow there again at the other end of it. Okay, hope you're well enough and just wanted to say that your new CD's a real earful buffet, and it's an honor for me to belly-up to that bar my friend. So work the work, don't lose the faith, and keep your ears attached to your hands just in case your muse is on the loose your comrade, daniel"-- danstearns (on 07/23/10 22:46:51) to Daniel Prendiville... ![]() HomemadeMusic.com is a creative outlet for home recording artists around the world. Artists may set up a free account which provides a profile page aggregating activities from many different web locations. By bridging varied artist activities and discussions HomemadeMusic.com is a forum for music creation, collaboration and exchange. In addition to fostering new music activities, HomemadeMusic.com is home to an archive of homemade music by artists worldwide dating back 20+ years. HISTORY Read an extensive interview with Bryan Baker, published June 2010 @ Don Campau's Living Archive of Underground Music. HomemadeMusic.com began in 1987 as GAJOOB Magazine, a print zine by Bryan Baker focused on home recording artists and independent music activities. The final issue in print was published in 1994, along with a compilation CD of 21 artists. Bryan produced a weekly 3-hour radio show from 1991-1994 on Salt Lake City's KRCL called Cassette Culture Shock which featured the artists sending tape albums to GAJOOB. GAJOOB entered the online world in 1992 with electronic versions of the magazine in DocMaker format, complete with audio au files. Baker began publishing The DiY Report in 1994, an email subscription newsletter which gathered news of independent music activities and featured articles and interviews with indie artists. 124 issues were published until 2001 and the content was archived via the web. The GAJOOB web site was also home to GAJOOB Radio, a streaming RealAudio radio show of music and artist interviews. HomemadeMusic.com was launched in 1999 as a place to feature home recording artists with interactive possibilities. Profile pages included loops which were downloaded by artists and new works were created. This quickly took on a life of its own and The Tapegerm Collective with Baker, Chris Phinney, Scott Carr, J. Mundok and Bev Stanton was born in May 2000 as these and soon other artists came together to exchange music collaboratively. Homemade Music went on to develop into an online CD shop for several years until a break in 2007 lead to a shift back to the site's original beginning and a focus on giving rebirth to GAJOOB's huge archive of recorded material and other content together with showcasing new recording activities and artists. |
