How can I keep a Voice Actor screaming into a mic from peaking and distorting the sound?

I'm having trouble with screaming into my mic for animated lines. When I scream or yell or say things too loud, the mic peeks and distorts the sound. Backing up creates too much ambiance from the room and lowering the mic sensitivity only quiets it instead of getting rid of the distortion. There has to be a way to do this. I'm using an MXL990 condenser mic and using Audacity to record. Thanks in advance for the help. This is really important.

Is there any way of using a different interface with a Presonus FP10?

I've already got an FP10 and I was looking to buy another to get a total of 16 mic inputs. I don't know why, but it seems like Presonus are discontinuing the FP10 for the FireStudio Project (I could be completely wrong). It seems that all the major online equipment stores aren't selling them now and according to a forum I saw a little while ago, you can't daisy chain the FP10 with a FireStudio Project because they're incompatible to work together.

My question is basically, can I hook up another interface like the FP10 or a mixer to use with my FP10 simultaneously? Or will I have to just accept the fact and buy something else?

5.1 surround sound mixing question?

I have a 5.1 surround sound speaker system and I am wondering what speakers I should use.  I have it setup right now using only the two front speakers and a sub.  I didn't think using the whole system would be good for mixing, but I could be wrong because I don't know much about this stuff.  Also, should I use the sub or not.  Thanks

How do I hook up an external mic pre with a recording interface?

This might sound like a stupid question, but I've never used external gear with my Presonus interface before and I'm a bit confused with how to hook stuff up. I know that with an external compressor for example, you run the output of the interface into the input of the compressor and then the output of the compressor back into the input on the back of the interface and plug in a mic into an avaliable mic pre on the interface.

My question basically is how do I do this with an external mic pre? I assume that you plug in the mics into the avaliable XLR inputs of the external mic pre but then where would I go?

Would I use the outputs of the external mic pre to plug back into the avaliable inputs on the back of the interface, or would I plug them into the XLR mic pres on the front of the interface?

Your answers would be great help for me!

Please help me kill this hum.

I have a hum in my recording studio, and I can't find where it is coming from.  After unplugging and removing any possible device, I still have it.  At the simplest form I have:

- MacBook Pro (unplugged from the wall, working on battery for testing purpose)

- M-Audio Fast Track Pro (connected via USB without any power adapter)

- A good guitar cable

- A guitar or bass.

So I don't have anything plugged in the wall.

The hum is bigger on my Fender Jazz bass.  It's softer in a cheap bass.  It's a little bit softer on a Statocaster single coil.   Softer on the Strato humbucker but still there. The noise is inexistent if I select both single coils.

We could walk around, me with the Mac, the interface and headphones, the bassist following behind connected to the interface, and anywhere we would go (in the building, even outdoor), we would still get that hum.  Except at home or in my car (but that's not the most comfortable recording studio I have seen).

Anyone have a clue?

Thanks!

How can you connect a powered mixer with an unpowered mixer?

I have a four channel Phonic powered mixer. I had recently purchased a Behringer Eurorack UB2442FX-PRO Mixer. This mixer is unpowered and I need it to be powered. I heard online that you can connect a powered mixer with an unpowered mixer to make it amplify to passive speakers. Is this true and how can you do this.

These are the URL's to the two mixers:

Phonic powered mixer: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Phonic-Powerpod-410S710-PA-System?sku=630485

Behringer unpowered mixer: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-Eurorack-UB2442FX-PRO-Mixer-101959856-i1153473.gc

I'm hoping you guys could tell me exactly what I need and where to plug things in. Thanks for any answers!!

How do I get sound out of my unpowered mixer to the speakers?
Now I understand that you need a power amp to amplify the sound, but how many power amps would you need to use, one per channel or just one power amp for the whole mixer? Thanks for anyone that answered!!! And it would be nice if you could recommend some good quality power amps!

Can the fiberglass insulation be touching in double wall construction?

I'm building a new project studio over my attached garage using double wall construction, partly for isolation but also for the insulation properties. After talking with the architect, I was thinking of a 2x6 outer wall and a 2x4 inner wall with standard fiberglass insulation in both. This should result in about an R-30 wall (the ceiling will be an even higher R value). So here's the question: The architect says we must have less than 1.5 inch spacing between the two walls otherwise convection currents will reduce the thermal efficiency. Obviously there won't be any drywall in between the two sets of studs, but is it a problem if the fiberglass itself touches from the inner to the outer wall? Also, does it matter if normal kraft or foil faced insulation is used and if the faces touch?

The finished room will be about 16 feet by 23 feet. We will use double drywall on the inside wall with Green Glue. Heating most likely will be in-floor electric radiant.
