Japandroids Reissue Early EPsBefore Vancouver twosome Japandroids broke through with their fuzzed-out 2009 LP Post-Nothing, they released two five-song EPs in the form of 2007's All Lies and 2008's Lullaby Death Jams. And now those early releases are being compiled into No Singles, due out May 11 on CD, 180 gram vinyl, and MP3 courtesy of Polyvinyl. In other Japandroids news, their 2010 7" singles series kicks off April 13. And they're touring from here to eternity over the next couple months. Check out the No Singles tracklist, as well as leadoff track "Darkness on the Edge of Gastown", below:

At the time, it wasn't clear whether the band would remain together after the tour. But now, those same college friends are about to get even happier, because Billboard is reporting that Sunny Day are working on a new album. This will be the first album from the original Sunny Day lineup since 1995's LP2. That same year, the band broke up for the first time. When they reconstituted themselves in 1997, bassist Nate Mendel, who'd become a Foo Fighter, did not rejoin. Now, Mendel's back. According to Billboard, the band played one new song on their reunion tour last year, but that song might not be on the album. Sunny Day Real Estate have a few spring dates lined up, including Coachella. Publ.Date : Thu, 11 Mar 2010 15:45:00 -0600 Conan O'Brien Announces Music/Comedy Tour! Ever since Conan O'Brien was unceremoniously kicked off "The Tonight Show" stage, there's been a certain missing feeling going around-- a feeling Jay Leno's fast-food-fart of a return to the show did little to quell. But Team Coco can rejoice as the big-haired comedian is plotting a North American tour described as "a night of music, comedy, hugging, and the occasional awkward silence" on its official site. Amazingly, the endeavor is called "The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour." (Conan's $32.5 million payout from NBC included a stipulation that he can't appear on TV until September 1, according to The New York Times.) The show will reportedly feature sidekick Andy Richter and members of the "Tonight Show" band. And, considering Conan's guitar skills and his ties with artists like the White Stripes (who performed on his last "Late Night") and Beck (who performed on his last "Tonight Show"), we could be in for some very special musical moments along with the requisite lulz. Not to mention the fact that he's playing Bonnaroo-- who knows what could go down there. Dates below: Conan O'Brien: 04-12 Eugene, OR - Hult Ceter for the Performing Arts Publ.Date : Thu, 11 Mar 2010 15:00:00 -0600 Band of Horses to Tour With Pearl Jam Band of Horses make soaring, earthy guitar anthems and have roots in Seattle. So do Pearl Jam. Band of Horses will open a bunch of dates for the grunge megastars in May. A good look for both bands! That BoH frontman Ben Bridwell has a voice that recalls Eddie Vedder's beloved Neil Young is just the icing on the cake. The Pearl Jam tour will start a couple of weeks before Infinite Arms, the third Band of Horses album, drops via Brown Records/Fat Possum/Columbia. Before they jump on the Pearl Jam tour, BoH will play a bunch of shows on both sides of the Atlantic, including SXSW dates and shows with Widespread Panic, She & Him, and Snow Patrol. We've got their dates below. Band of Horses: 03-15 Boulder, CO - Fox Theater * with Widespread Panic Publ.Date : Thu, 11 Mar 2010 14:00:00 -0600 Listen: Spiritualized's J. Spaceman Remixes Fuck Buttons' "Olympians" "Olympians", the new single from British noise-bleep kingpins Fuck Buttons will be released on 12" vinyl and digital download April 12 via ATP. It features a couple of big remixes, from Suicide frontman Alan Vega and from J. Spaceman, otherwise known an Spiritualized leader Jason Pierce. That's the J. Spaceman remix above. Also above: The single's Magic Eye cover art, designed by Fuck Buttons themselves. If you're one of those lucky people actually able to see the 3D images in those things, stare away. The trek includes a set at this year's Coachella. Dates are below, as is Charlotte and her band's recent take on the busted blues track "Trick Pony" on "Letterman".
And if you're as into IRM as I am, you may appreciate a behind-the-scenes mini-doc about the record filmed by Charlotte's son Ben, who is 12 years old and already cooler than you or I will ever be. The Chicago Tribune confirms that the band will serve as headliners at this year's Lollapalooza, which goes down in Chicago's Grant Park August 6-8. Talking to the Trib, frontman Julian Casablancas says that he thinks the band's new album, which they're recording now, will be out in September. Other rumored Lolla artists include Arcade Fire, Phoenix, Soundgarden, Green Day, and Lady Gaga. -- Last month, the people who owned the rights to the musical Jesus Christ Superstar blocked electroclash shock-rapper Peaches from performing the one-woman version of it that she was planning to stage in Berlin. But Expatriarch reports that Peaches has successfully negotiated with those rights-holders, and now the musical is back on. She'll perform it March 26-28 at Berlin's HAU1. Sacrilege reigns! -- On April 6, Anti- will release Shame, Shame, the new album from Philly chooglers Dr. Dog. It'll be the group's first record since signing with the label last year. -- The Ether Festival will come to the venues of London's Southbank Centre April 16-24. This year's fest will include shows from Lou Reed's Metal Machine Trio, Gil Scott-Heron, Broadcast, HEALTH, Micachu & the Shapes, Andrew Weatherall, video director Chris Cunningham, and Stereo MCs. Publ.Date : Thu, 11 Mar 2010 12:05:00 -0600 Atari Teenage Riot Reunite German electro-punks Atari Teenage Riot had something of a zeitgeist moment in the mid-90s by blurring hardcore punk, jungle, noise, and bloodcurdling screaming, turning all that stuff into a hyperspeed mush that basically forced you (well, me) to stop doing your homework and run around your bedroom screaming, "Deutschland! Has gotta! Dieeeee!" The one time I saw them live, they exited the stage to a wall of white noise so loud it made my stomach hurt. They were something to behold. Atari Teenage Riot were signed to the Beastie Boys' Grand Royal label and toured with the likes of Beck, Rage Against the Machine, and the Wu-Tang Clan. The group has been effectively disbanded since founding member Carl Crack died of a drug overdose in 2001. But NME reports that the group will reunite, with founders Alec Empire and Hanin Elias joined by late-90s member Nic Endo and new recruit CX Kidtronik, who has worked with Saul Williams. Co-producer David Day, a former Pitchfork contributor and Grill's husband at the time, also features in the movie. Tomorrow, the movie comes out on DVD, and you can order it right now from the Speaking in Code website. The DVD includes extras like uncut footage of Modeselektor's performance at the 2007 Sonar festival, as well as a tour of the Kompakt Records store and office given by Michael Mayer, which you can watch below or over at Pitchfork.tv Below, you can also watch the film's trailer. And head on over to Forkcast to download a podcast mix that DJ Baltimoroder put together for the film. Speaking in Code trailer:

"Terrible Love" has a crescendo and horns and chiming guitars passed down from the Edge. It's a song by the National. Check it out below. And head to their website to see some shaky in-studio footage of the group recording the new album, as well as a picture that looks a lot like the High Violet album cover (above). UPDATE: That cover-looking image has been confirmed as the face of High Violet.

It involved both Drake and slow-motion champagne spillage, and it wasn't that good. But an alternate video for the same song made its way onto the internet earlier this week, as New York magazine points out. And hey! This one is way better! Director Megaforce brings out some gravitational weirdness that could well make you nauseous, and Ratatat actually show up in this one. Watch it below:
Publ.Date : Thu, 11 Mar 2010 09:00:00 -0600 New Label Alert: Tri Angle The uber-cool Cologne dance label Kompakt has announced that they will be distributing the new label Tri Angle, run by Robin Carolan, a writer for the British music blog 20 Jazz Funk Greats. The label will devote itself to a genre of music so new that nobody quite knows what to call it yet. A story in The Guardian about the new label's launch suggests the name "drag", which will have to do for now. Talking to The Guardian, Carolan described the sound thus: "It's like a witching-hour vision of Cocteau Twins dream pop, meshed with the soundtrack to a particularly angsty Gregg Araki film full of Gen X shoegazer atmospherics and industrial beats, brought bang up to the date by the influence of raw hip-hop mutations like chopped and screwed and juke." The Guardian credits the hypnotic, remix-happy band Salem as being the genre's creators, but Salem aren't scheduled to release anything on Tri Angle. Instead, the label's roster includes so-new-it-hurts artists like oOoOO, Slava, Balam Acab, and Creep, who the Kompakt folks mysteriously call a "female supergroup". (Creep's MySpace lists DJs Lauren Flax and Lauren Dillard as members.) Along with Group Tightener and the Market Hotel, Tri Angle is presenting a SXSW showcase next Wednesday at Cheer Up Charlie's (formerly Ms. Bea's). Label acts Creep and Slava will perform, as will more familiar names like Best Coast, These Are Powers, and Javelin. Publ.Date : Thu, 11 Mar 2010 08:00:00 -0600 Video: Of Montreal Perform New Song on Kids Show "Yo Gabba Gabba!" Here's how you know of Montreal are among the most theatrical bands on the planet: They can show up on the Nickelodeon kids' show "Yo Gabba Gabba!", a fantasy primary color wonderland inhabited by monsters and robots, and fit in perfectly without so much as changing their clothes. In fact, when they stopped by the show to play a bouncy song called "Bananas Rice Applesauce Toast", they almost looked dressed down. What, silver lame trenchcoats and that's it? What is it, Casual Friday? The episode of "Yo Gabba Gabba!" with the of Montreal performance aired today on Nickelodeon. The band posted the video of their segment on their website; watch it below, via Stereogum. Also, check below to see photos of the Flaming Lips and Mos Def (as a superhero!) along with the "Yo Gabba Gabba!" crew. Mos appears on the show tomorrow, as do Devo, performing the song "Watch Us Work It". Future guests this season include Erykah Badu, Band of Horses, Fred Armisen, the Killers, Solange Knowles, the Faint, and Blitzen Trapper.

And even though the band may come off sounding like dudes who only dust off their four-tracks after 10-hour binges on Jodorowsky movies, they're not wasting any time dropping the follow-up. On May 11, Woods will release new album At Echo Lake on frontman Jeremy Earl's Woodsist label. The band is keeping busy before the album drops, as well. They'll spend their March touring with Real Estate, their fellow NYC-area practitioners of homespun guitar whorl. We've got both the At Echo Lake tracklist and the band's touring itinerary below. And on a forthcoming compilation EP, you'll get to hear early tastes of the music that all of those groups (as well as other 4AD artists) plan to release in the future. Fragments From a Work in Progress is a limited-edition 12" that features new tracks and demos from the above-mentioned acts, as well as Blonde Redhead and the Big Pink. It's a Record Store Day release, which means you'll only be able to get it at independent music retailers on April 17. And it won't be available digitally, so be sure to show up early. Tracklist below: Fragments From a Work in Progress: A1 Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti: "Menopause Man" Publ.Date : Wed, 10 Mar 2010 15:50:00 -0600 Beck Recruits St. Vincent, Liars, and Os Mutantes for Next Record Club Beck's Record Club is arguably the best reason to make sure you're regularly checking the man's website. Record Club is a project wherein Beck rounds up a few of his friends, famous and otherwise, and records a cover version of an entire album in one day. He then posts the results to his website one song at a time. Thus far, he's done the Velvet Underground's The Velvet Underground and Nico with Nigel Godrich and Giovanni Ribisi, Leonard Cohen's Songs of Leonard Cohen with MGMT and Devendra Banhart, and, most recently, Skip Spence's Oar with Wilco, Feist, and Jamie Lidell. And the next one should be a hell of a thing. In a post on her Twitter earlier this afternoon, St. Vincent leader Annie Clark revealed that she'd recorded a Record Club with Beck, Liars, and Brazilian tropicalia legends Os Mutantes last week: "It will be online soonish. Serious fun." She did not reveal which album that particularly badass crew had recorded. But given the level of talent in this mob, the result would be worth a listen even if they were taking on Ugly Kid Joe's America's Least Wanted. (Or, hell, especially if they were taking on America's Least Wanted.) Publ.Date : Wed, 10 Mar 2010 15:00:00 -0600 Video: Real Estate: "Suburban Dogs" Lackadaisical New Jersey indie rockers Real Estate are more suburban New Jersey than you. Sorry. If their wistfully twanging, Best New Music'd debut album didn't convince you, perhaps their new video will. The clip finds the foursome playing for a bunch of buffet-eating, big hair-sporting suburbanites at what looks like a Christmas office party. Kicker: The whole shindig takes place in a real estate office. It's official-- Real Estate are real estate agent-approved. Richard Law directed the video, which you can watch below or at Pitchfork.tv:
