Oh, let's see. My father was Sherlock Holmes and my mother was Mother Teresa. My father wanted to be Mother Teresa, but the Vatican opposed this move, on the grounds that a man couldn't be called "Mother". Oh, and on biological grounds also. Feeling rather peeved, he initially became Emperor Hirohito for a few weeks, then (in quick succession)Tom Jones, Tim Jones, Tim James, Oprah Winfrey, Sir Edmund Hillary, Sherpa Tensing, Tenpole Tudor, Tudor Titsov, Mitzi Gaynor, the man who empties the bins at the local swimming pool (twice), Peter Ustinov, Peter Uranus, Marse Attacks, the Vicar of Dibley, Gianfranco Zola, Gordon Zola, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jean-Claude Sartre, Jean-Paul Georgian Ringeau, me, someone else whose name I can't remember, Jim Tones, the Bodleian Library, a seeing-eye dog, Helena Christensen Anderson Lee, Bonjela, Lana Kane, Fridtjof Nansen (not sure about the spelling), Universal Studios, Rex the dog, Rex the cat, Elvis Presley, the Third Secret of Fatima, the Second Episode of the Sopranos, Francis Ford Grand Victoria, The Member of Royalty Formerly Known as Prince Albert, a stick insect, the 15A bus to Templeogue, the inventor of Super Glue's next door neighbour, and finally Sherlock Holmes...

Fourth podcast
Sponsored by the letter P. Edited and completed using CE5 and AA3. All done. And to reward you for your patience through this long and tortuous process, I might just upload Podcast One tomorrow. Watch this space for further details… Regards, djp

Third podcast
Sponsored (once again) by the letter O. All done and dusted using CE5 and AA3. Ready to be released shortly. Regards, djp

Release date
Sponsored by the letter O. Finally decided on a release date for the album – 18 September. I was going to release it on 11 September, but then I realised that what is 11/9 for me is 9/11 for a lot of the world, and on the working assumption that many people will have more [...]

Second podcast
Sponsored by the letter G. Lazy so-and-so that I am, I just kept the same CE5 settings as I’d used for the first podcast. I had to change the fades in/out, but I think I have that sussed now. Onwards and (perhaps) upwards… Regards, djp

First podcast finished
Sponsored by the letter F. Had a listen to the first podcast today. The mix sounds fine, particularly in headphones, so I haven’t changed the levels or anything. Mastered the file and converted it to a low bitrate MP3 file in AA3. No sense in giving the milk away for free now, is there…? I’ll be uploading [...]

First podcast on the way
Sponsored by the letter D. Spent the morning editing the first podcast in CE5. Not as easy as I thought to fade A Bed For Lazarus in and out of the mix, but I think I got it eventually. Just out of practice, I guess. I still need to mix and master the podcast, which [...]

A Bed For Lazarus ? 140810
Sponsored by the letter V. Spent practically the entire day mixing and mastering this damn track in CE5, Cubase VST 3.7, AA3 and Cool Edit Pro. I won’t go into the ins-and-outs of it, but it was a lot more difficult than I expected. And there I was thinking ambient music was easy to do [...]

A Bed For Lazarus ? 100810
Sponsored by the letter R. Following on Peter Fitzpatrick’s suggestion about a “bed” for the podcasts, I spent the morning programming an ambient track called A Bed For Lazarus,  using CE5 and various HALion One voices. Essentially what we have are repeated subsonic bass and celesta-type musical phrases, together with a distressed synth voice put through [...]

An afternoon in the studio
Sponsored by the letter P. I’ve decided that as part of the promo for the album, I will publish a short series of podcasts. Each podcast will feature a number of tracks and a little bit of idle nattering from moi. The podcasts will be published in and around the “official” release date for the [...]
