Shell is a solo performing singer/songwriter/guitarist. Her songs are moody and intense taking you on a lyrical roller coaster. Her voice is strong yet soothing and her performances dynamic and mesmerizing.
The daughter of a classical singer and vocal music teacher, Shell's vocal talent is inherent. Singing as an alto in her church choir fostered her love of music. She began taking violin lessons at age eight and continued through age fifteen. During that time she also studied the clarinet and bass clarinet, which she played in her junior high school band. By age sixteen she had taught herself to play guitar and by nineteen began writing music and lyrics. Performances at venues such as Alvins and the Detroit Public Library lead to Shell's eventual association with several performance groups. Music became her passion and any place from street corners to dance floors became her stage. This singer/songwriter/guitarist is a native Detroiter performing in the local coffee house and outdoor festival circuits for the last few years. Performances include The 1998 Ann Arbor Art Fairs and the 1998 Hamtramck Labor Day Festival, where she opened for Sixpence None the Richer. Her past performances include the Grand Opening of the Barnes and Noble in Royal Oak, MI in 2002.
More recently, Shell's songwriting has evolved with the help of technology. Although difficult to perform live, most of her songs are currently written on the computer instead of the guitar. Shell is a supporting artist of The Tapegerm Collective. Tapegerm is a group of musicians and sound artists dedicated to making loop based music. As a Gold Level Creative Artist, she is producing imaginative and progressive tracks ranging in style from Folk Rock to Dance.
