Teenage Engineering Releases EP-133 K.O. II OS 2.0 “Champions Update”

Teenage Engineering has dropped a powerful new firmware update for the EP-133 K.O. II, dubbed the “Champions Update (OS 2.0)”, and it brings a suite of major enhancements that expand both creativity and control for users of this already-iconic portable sampler.

Resampling Arrives

One of the biggest features in OS 2.0 is resampling, now available both in mic/line-in mode and internally while working within sample mode. You can now:

  • Choose between mono or stereo resampling sources
  • Apply effects (like reverb) to a sample and then resample it to create a “wet” version while preserving the original
  • Use hands-free resampling by pressing Shift + Pad, enabling a performance-friendly workflow

Chords & Polyphony

The update introduces a 16-voice polyphony engine, a major leap from previous limitations. Combined with hands-free sampling, this means you can now:

  • Trigger multiple pads simultaneously to play chords
  • Record and resample those chords into a new pad seamlessly

Sample a Pattern with Fixed Length

You can now resample beats with a fixed length:

  • Hold Shift and Pad to arm resampling to that pad
  • Use Plus/Minus to select how many bars to capture
  • Press Play to launch the sequencer and automatically record a perfect loop

Hands-Free Sampling via Threshold

Sampling just got smarter. You can now:

  • Set a threshold with the Y knob
  • Begin recording automatically when audio passes the threshold — ideal for mic-in captures or live one-takes

Song Mode

A full song mode is now available, letting you chain scenes into full arrangements:

  • Press Main + Enter to enter song editing
  • Use Shift + A/C/D to add, cut, or insert positions
  • Scene changes are controlled via Shift + Plus/Minus
  • Start playback from anywhere or from the beginning
  • A handy visual indicator using the X and Y levels shows song progress on-screen

MIDI and Sidechain Support

OS 2.0 also refines MIDI functionality:

  • Proper MIDI configuration, pitch bend support, and MIDI thru
  • Sidechaining can now be added via Output settings:
    • Adjust length and shape of the sidechain envelope
    • Assign which pads trigger sidechaining
    • Apply the effect to specific groups via Shift + selection

With OS 2.0, the K.O. II evolves from a portable groovebox into a mini-production powerhouse, now capable of layered arrangements, dynamic resampling workflows, and deeper MIDI and mix control. It’s a love letter to the sampling community — and a solid reason to revisit or invest in the EP-133.
